It is possible to change the structure of the files used by Retain so that you can have the fields that you require against tasks and resources. This is a very powerful feature that many people using Retain overlook.

There are a number of ways of restructuring the Retain data files:

1. One of the Step2 consultants can alter the database structure during a consultancy visit.
2. You can request that Step2 create and send you Retain data file structures that suit your requirements.
3. The Retain Restructure Utility allows you to make the changes yourself.
4. You can also make changes to the data files with some database products. (Please contact Step2 before proceeding.)

Using the Retain Restructure Utility is simple, but it is important that you follow the instructions in the manual when making database changes and the changes are made to a copy of the live data files.
